Dear Faculty, and Staff,
As we approach the final weeks of the spring semester, I want to take a moment to acknowledge the incredible work you do to support our students and strengthen our campus community. Your dedication to fostering their growth, success, and well-being is evident in every interaction, and it is deeply appreciated.
This month, we are proud to announce the pilot launch of the Ellsworth Eagle Chatbot, an innovative tool that will enhance access to campus resources. We also celebrate a generous $10,000 donation from M&T Bank to support The Pantry’s mission of addressing food insecurity. These efforts reflect our collective commitment to innovation, well-being, and care for our community.
I encourage you to take advantage of the many opportunities available to engage with our students—whether it’s signing up to volunteer as a Saturday of Service Team Leader, attending events like Take Back the Night or Eagle Day, or celebrating student excellence at the Honors and Awards Ceremony. Each of these moments strengthens the vibrant culture we are building here at Brockport.
As finals approach, I also want to highlight an important resource for students: The Hartwell Clinic will be offering a support group on Managing Stress During Finals every Monday through Thursday on April 14th, 21st, and 28th from 6:30–7:30 p.m. in Hartwell Hall Room 3A. These small group counseling sessions led by counselor trainees will provide students with strategies for managing stress and anxiety during this busy time. Please encourage students who may benefit from this resource to attend.
Division Highlights
Hazing Education and Prevention: HAZE Documentary Screening
On April 3rd, the Hazing Education and Prevention Committee hosted a screening of HAZE for 70 student leaders representing BSG, Greek Life, club sports, HPPE peer educators, and Residential Life. The documentary tells the story of Gordie Bailey and highlights the dangers of hazing and alcohol misuse. Following the screening, Jill Maurer from the Gordie Center at the University of Virginia led a discussion on recognizing signs of alcohol overdose, overcoming barriers to intervention, practicing active bystander behaviors, and fostering a sense of belonging within groups. This event provided critical education to promote safer and more inclusive campus communities.
Congratulations: The Pantry Receives $10,000 Grant
A huge congratulations to Ashley Breth, Assistant Director of Wellbeing in Health Promotion & Prevention Education (HPPE), on receiving a $10,000 grant from M&T Bank! These funds will be used to stabilize and enhance The Pantry’s food supply by procuring fresh, frozen, and non-perishable food items—our highest priority—to meet growing demand and ensure diverse nutritional options for our users. Thank you, Ashley, for your leadership in addressing food insecurity on our campus!
Leadership Trainer Certified Master Trainers
Congratulations to Carly Fox, Hunter Lincoln, Janee Slade, Kristina Collier, and Rebecca Lemus for earning their certification as Master Trainers through the Leadership Trainer Program. This achievement reflects their dedication to fostering experiential learning and leadership development on campus.
Pilot Launch: Ellsworth Eagle Chatbot
We are excited to announce the pilot launch of the Ellsworth Eagle Chatbot on April 14! This innovative tool will allow student leaders to connect with campus resources 24/7 while providing feedback that will shape its full rollout in Fall 2025. We’re excited about this new way to enhance communication and access across campus!
Residential Life/Learning Communities
Guided Connections: The Guided Connections initiative continues to foster a stronger sense of belonging among residential students. The data shows remarkable progress in student connection to both campus and residence halls. Since the fall, the percentage of students who feel connected or very connected to campus has grown from 68% to 86%, with a total of 99% now reporting some level of connection. Similarly, connection to residence halls has increased from 59% to 74%, with an impressive 97% of students identifying as somewhat, connected, or very connected. These results highlight the impact of intentional one-on-one conversations conducted by Resident Assistants (RAs). Through these guided connections, RAs have engaged with over 90% of residential students this spring, addressing roommate relationships, campus involvement, and overall well-being. Their efforts have been instrumental in creating welcoming and supportive communities where students can thrive.
Future Health Professionals LLC: Students recently visited the Buffalo Science Museum to explore exhibits on the human body. Thank you to the LLC team for organizing this enriching experience.
Room Selection Day: On April 3rd, returning students selected their housing for the 2025–2026 academic year. We’re thrilled by the strong participation!
