Dear Colleagues:
This week’s highlight was definitely Scholars Day. I enjoyed the opportunity to hear from the students who undertook the Golden Eagle Experience service learning trip to Puerto Rico over Spring Break, walking around the SERC to engage with students who were presenting their work as part of the Poster Palooza event, hearing from Sarah Ruden, our Art of Fact speaker in her afternoon session with colleagues from history and English, and listening to the keynote address by Kate Moore, author of The Radium Girls. From beginning to end (including the food trucks!), it was a great day.
There were several other great parts to this week, including the opportunity to interview each of the outstanding candidates for the Presidential Citation Award. The winner of the award will be announced at the Honors and Awards ceremony on April 25, and I hope you can join us for this important end of year event, where we celebrate the students who make the most of their time at SUNY Brockport.
I had a number of regular meetings this week, including five one-to-ones with cabinet members, the Senate meeting, and JPBC. Senate focused on a general education policy update amongst other topics, and JPBC heard reports on enrollment and strategic planning. In addition, JPBC voted to approve the proposed student fees for next year. As a reminder, SUNY makes the final determination as to whether or not we are able to assess those fee proposals.
This morning, a meeting fell out of my calendar, so I intend to walk around campus and spend time in some of the buildings I missed during last week’s walkabout. Over lunch, I’ll be attending the Brown Bag Lunch and Learn event in Seymour, and this afternoon I will take part in the Omicron Delta Kappa National Leadership Honor Society Induction ceremony.
I wanted to close with the good news that the Day of Giving surpassed our goals and expectations, with, to date, over $330,000 raised, thanks to 2100 donors. If you were one of those individuals, thank you so much for your commitment to your students, your department, and other areas on campus. Together we truly can make a difference.
