Strategic Enrollment Management Update

Wednesday, August 20, 2025

Greetings Colleagues,

SUNY Brockport continues to experience enrollment growth for the 3rd year in a row. As of yesterday, 7,930 students have registered for fall 2025 (6,199 undergraduate, 1,731 graduate), indicating that we are on track to surpass our overall enrollment goal of 7,751. This reflects an anticipated enrollment increase of over 20% compared to 2022. I will provide another update after the third week of classes with our preliminary headcount. As for new students, we expect to match the past few years of record-breaking incoming student counts to start the semester:

  • 1,309 first year students are registered, ahead of the 1250 target.
  • 743 transfer students are registered, ahead of the 650 target.
  • 419 incoming graduate students are registered, approaching the 460 target.
  • 54 new international students will be joining us this fall from 10 countries.
  • We will start the year with approximately 900 student athletes, an increase from just over 660 in 2022.

As was the case last year, we continue to lead the SUNY Comprehensive Universities with the highest number of combined freshman and transfer deposits. Our enrollment growth is a campus-wide effort, with every single member of our community making a difference and helping students find their home at SUNY Brockport. Thank you for your continued engagement and dedication to the university.

The Strategic Enrollment Management Retention & Persistence Council will have two new cross-divisional subgroups this year, focused on:

  1. The Predictive Analytics, Slate Student Success & Early Warning Team will use data to identify struggling students earlier and implement interventions to support student success. The group also aims to expand the utilization of Slate Student Success as the system that will be used to track, communicate, and raise alerts from the campus community.

  2. The Graduation and Momentum Task Force will use institutional data, the National Institute of Student Success Diagnostic & Playbook, advising best practices, and the SUNY Academic Momentum initiatives, to develop a set of recommendations aimed at improving 4-year graduation rates.

Please reach out to co-chairs Erin Rickman (erickman@brockport.edu) and Denise Copelton (dcopelto@brockport.edu) if you have questions or suggestions for the SEM Retention & Persistence Council.

Thank you to everyone who supported orientation, EOP Summer Academy, registration and advising, preparing for your classes, maintaining the buildings and grounds, and everything in between to help us be ready to welcome our new and returning students. SUNY Brockport continues to be in a period of transformation, growth, and vibrancy because of the exceptional work of our dedicated staff and faculty.

Wishing you a smooth start to the semester.
