Dear Campus Community,
With the bittersweet news of President Macpherson’s decision to retire now two weeks behind us, it is time to begin the process of selecting SUNY Brockport’s eighth president. That decision ultimately rests with Chancellor King and the SUNY trustees, but the campus community, led by a Presidential Search Committee, will play a critical role.
The makeup of the committee, with a few exceptions, is dictated by SUNY’s Presidential Search Guidelines. As chair of the College Council, I will chair the committee. The rest of the committee will be constituted as follows:
- Three additional College Council members
- Six full-time teaching faculty members
- An undergraduate student
- A graduate student
- A member of our alumni community
- A member of the Brockport Foundation
- A dean
- A professional staff member
- A classified staff member
- An REOC representative
- A member appointed by the Chancellor (usually a sitting or retired SUNY President)
I am coordinating the selection of specific committee members in consultation with the Brockport University Senate President, the Brockport Foundation, the Brockport Alumni Association and SUNY, among others. That process is underway. SUNY support for the search will be provided by Associate Vice Chancellor Zulaika Rodríguez and campus support by Senior Assistant to the President Julie Pruss. The first order of business for the committee will be the selection of a search consultant, which will recruit candidates for consideration. That process has already begun.
We have a lot of important work in front of us. Our objective should be to secure a successor who can build on the outstanding work done by President Macpherson in her now ten years at the helm.
As we go through the process, I will endeavor to update you periodically on our progress. A website will be established in the coming weeks that will provide additional information.
Thank you in advance for your patience, support, and understanding as we proceed.
