President’s Newsletter

2025-10-03

Last week’s Homecoming activities were well attended and a lot of fun. The weather cooperated fully, and the parade was the largest I’ve seen during my presidency. It was good to see our students, alumni, families and visitors enjoying the events on and off campus.

This week was jam packed with celebrations and events, including the Elevating Women Breakfast hosted by the RBJ, where Brockport was one of 23 organizations (and the only university) recognized for efforts to support women; the Courage Bowl Luncheon, in support of Camp Good Days and Special Times, hosted by St. John Fisher University; and the YWCA Empowering Women event, held in Downtown Rochester and featuring MC Lyte as the guest speaker.

On campus, we hosted the quarterly meeting of our College Council, with presentations on our strategic plan as well as our comprehensive fundraising campaign. We also hosted the Multicultural Mixer for students, faculty and staff.

This week as part of my regular one-to-ones with our union leaders I was able to meet with the UUP president, Dr. Susan Orr. I also met with Senate Executive. JPBC’s agenda focused on a presentation by Mr. Mike Andriatch on fundraising and advancement activities, as well as an update from Mr. Ian Harper regarding the recent State University Business Officers Association (SUBOA) meeting. The SUNY comprehensive presidents met on Tuesday to discuss issues of common concern, and Cabinet met on Wednesday. We got an update on our capital plan and we reviewed our strategic plan, particularly focusing on goal four, to be a great university at which to work. We will be continuing our conversation on this topic on October 17.

Today I’m working at the REOC/Brockport Downtown and meeting with a community member to discuss the nonprofit landscape. I will be sorry to miss this month’s First Friday, but hope you can go along to enjoy camaraderie with colleagues and community members.

If you are looking for something fun to do on Saturday, please consider coming along to the Courage Bowl at St. John Fisher to support our Golden Eagles football team. The game begins at noon and all proceeds from the gate go to support Camp Good Days.
