Enrollment Management Team,
I have been catching up on a lot of reading between semesters, including learning about “octopus organizations,” reading several enrollment research articles, and reviewing leadership development resources. I find myself always coming back to one timeless model that emphasizes easy to remember leadership behaviors that span across positions and roles: The Leadership Challenge by Kouzes and Posner. Its Five Practices of Exemplary Leadership are applicable across positions and roles, focusing on integrity, purpose, and creating a culture of collaboration:
-
Model the Way
-
Inspire a Shared Vision
-
Challenge the Process
-
Enable Others to Act
-
Encourage the Heart
Along the same lines, many members of our division had the opportunity to participate in the divisional workshop on Emotional Intelligence— EQ strengthens the ability to manage stress, communicate effectively, and build positive relationships across diverse teams and student populations. Our next divisional professional development session, “Authentic Leadership & Your Leadership Story” with Dave Bagley will be on February 24th at 3pm, in Seymour Union 220.
Recruitment & Enrollment Update Enrollment continues to be moving in a positive, stable direction:
-
We are moving towards our spring enrollment target of 7,399 with 7,216 students currently registered.
-
Spring 2025 UG Recruitment: We have 35 first year deposits, which is on target. We have 317 transfer deposits, ahead of our target of 275.
-
Fall 2026 UG Recruitment: We surpassed our application goal earlier than anticipated, with over 13,700 undergraduate applications for fall, compared to 11,919 at this point last year and 10,969 in 2024. This has resulted in a significant increase in accepted students, 8,967, compared to 7,356 in 2025 and 7,272 in 2024.
-
I will provide more updates about SUNY’s Academic Momentum Initiative, the Direct Admit Pilot Program, and our increase in dual credit students in the upcoming SEM campuswide newsletter.
