Make sure to allocate time when returning to campus for computer updates:
When returning to campus, please make sure to allocate time for computer updates or issues upon your return. Some computers that have not been used during the summer may need an hour or more of updates and may need to restart multiple times during the process.
Important Information Needed: Will you be using Minitab to teach this Fall?
Minitab licensing requires BITS to assign licenses to users individually. If you will be using Minitab to teach in any of your courses for the Fall 2024 semester please fill out a Software Request if you have not already done so. BITS will need to know for which courses/sections so the students can be licensed properly.
How can students get access to popular software for school?
Microsoft Office:
Students who need access to Microsoft Office applications on their personal devices can install the Office desktop applications from Office.com with their @Brockport.edu email! Check out the How to Install Office 365 Applications article for more information.
Adobe Products:
Dell offers educational discounts for Students and Employees at Brockport:
- Did you know that you are able to take advantage of Dell’s Educational discount as a Student or Employee at Brockport? To see the current sales available, check out www.dell.com/Brockport or more information.
Brightspace Email Settings
Have you recently taught at another SUNY school? If so, your notification settings might be set to your former school email account. Here’s how to fix this.
- Send an email to SUNYOnlineHelp@suny.edu from your SUNY Brockport email account
- The Subject should read: “Convert my Brightspace account to Brockport”
- The text of the email should read – note, change the content in the **: “Please transfer management of my Brightspace account from *PREVIOUS CAMPUS NAME* (*PREVIOUS CAMPUS EMAL ACCOUNT*) to Brockport (*USER NETID*@brockport.edu).”
If your account is not transferred over, any communications students send through Brightspace will have the notifications sent to your former institution’s email account. You will only be alerted in Brightspace by the orange dot over the envelope at the top of your Brightspace window. Click the envelope to open Brightspace mail.
Information Security
Use Strong Passwords to Protect Your Accounts
Your password is the first line of defense against unauthorized access to your information, be it your personal or work accounts. Keep your accounts safe with these password practices:
- Create strong passwords that are harder to crack.
- Use a different password for each account to limit the impact of leaks.
- Use passphrases for stronger, more memorable passwords.
Need help in selecting a secure password? Learn more about securing your passwords by reading our Securing Your Password article or contacting the IT Service Desk at 585-395-5151 (Option 1).
