Hello Golden Eagles,
As we wrap up another academic year, I want to share a couple of updates and a note to our graduating students.
Last week I had the opportunity — along with President Macpherson and Dr. Lorraine Acker — to meet with some of the students who participated in last week’s march for Palestine and others who came to support their fellow Golden Eagles. We appreciated the opportunity to hear their concerns and learn how deeply they have been impacted by the ongoing conflict. The discussion was both emotional and productive. I want to thank our students for their candor and vulnerability in sharing their experiences with us.
Year One-Restorative Practices:
The first year of our Restorative Practices Initiative has concluded. Fourteen members of the faculty and staff completed Tier 1 training-community building circles, in May 2023. During the academic year, the restorative champions conducted community building circles across campus and presented at the 22nd Annual Diversity Conference. In addition, the champions met monthly to develop an action/implementation plan for this initiative and continued developing their skills as circle facilitators. At the end of this month, we will move into phase 2 of this 3-year initiative. This phase consists of the champions completing Tier 2 training- Facilitating Responsive Circles.
