Hello Golden Eagles,

I hope you had a rest filled and rejuvenating mid-semester break. I’d like to share with you a few updates and announcements from the Office of Equity, Diversity, and Inclusion.

Indigenous Peoples Day

In the spring of 2024, University Senate passed a resolution to formally recognize the second Monday in October as Indigenous People’s Day. The resolution was signed by President Macpherson. Several events were planned to commemorate the day.

On October 17th, the Ad-Hoc Committee on Indigenous Land Acknowledgement and the Indigenous Peoples’ Day Planning Committee hosted a daylong event featuring Indigenous scholars and members of the Tonawanda Seneca Nation. Thank you to all who worked to make these events successful. 

PED Grant: Call for Proposals

OEDI is now accepting applications for the Promoting Excellence in Diversity (PED) Grant for Spring 2025. The PED Grant supports proposals from faculty and staff for scholarly and artistic events that contribute to the college’s mission of promoting diversity, equity, inclusion, and educational excellence.

• Faculty and staff are eligible to apply for a PED Grant.
• The maximum grant award is $1000. Requests for smaller amounts are highly encouraged.

Applications are due: November 25, 2024
