SEM Update: January 2025

Greetings Colleagues,

The week before classes is always filled with a flood of activity and excitement as we prepare for the semester ahead. SUNY Brockport continues to be in a position of strength related to our enrollment as we start the Spring 2025 semester.

Recruitment & Enrollment Update:

• Overall Enrollment: We are on track to hit the spring enrollment target of 6,911, with over 7,000 students currently registered. There will still be movement until our official enrollment census date, which is after the third week of classes.

• New Students: We are welcoming 50 new first year students, ahead of the target of 35 students. We have 340 new transfer students registered, surpassing the 275 target. Spring graduate registrations are currently at 213 new students, exceeding the target of 200 students. Both transfer and graduate registrations are expected to grow as students continue to register this week. We are also excited to welcome 41 new international students this spring from Nepal, India, Nigeria, Bangladesh, El Salvador, Japan, Ethiopia, United Kingdom, and Ireland.

• Fall 2025 UG Recruitment Update: We are in a strong position for fall 2025, with 12,222 undergraduate applications for fall, compared to 11,282 at this point last year, and 9,159 in 2023. As a result, there is an increase in accepted students, with 7,755 for fall 2025, compared to 7,510 in 2024 and 5,906 in 2023.

We will update our enrollment projections after the first 3 weeks of the semester and review our fall to spring student retention trends. More to follow in upcoming newsletters.

The second half of 2024-2025 is off to a great start. We are in a strong position for 2025-2026 thanks to the dedicated staff and faculty working together across the university to support our current students and recruit new students into our community. For those of you who may be new to campus, our Strategic Enrollment Management (SEM) Committee is a cross-divisional team that includes representatives from across various divisions of the university. Three subgroups exist to support the implementation of the SEM Plan: The Recruitment Council, The Retention & Persistence Council, and the newly formed Data Team.
