Enrollment Management Newsletter - Issue 4 2024-2025

Thursday, February 6, 2025

Enrollment Management Team,

Despite the colder weather, the spring semester has been off to a great start filled with the warmth and energy of our Enrollment Management staff. I enjoyed getting to see many of you during the first couple of weeks of the semester at athletic events, during my visits to our offices, during meetings, and in passing on campus.

EM Divisional Awards Reminder: Do not forget to nominate a colleague for our Enrollment Management Divisional Awards Program! Applications are due by March 15th: Use this link to nominate your colleagues! We will celebrate each other at our end of semester celebration on May 20th.

As we start the spring semester, it is helpful to review reporting resources and refresh ourselves on policies and procedures. I listed a few key resources for your reference:

  • Issues Reporting Center: There are many ways to report concerns to the appropriate offices on campus. This page includes information on how to report concerns related to student conduct, bias, HR, Title IX, facilities, etc. Please consult with your supervisor or reach out directly to me if you are ever unsure about where to refer a student or how to share a concern.
  • Basic Needs Resources: Resources are available to support students who may be facing food or housing insecurity, or who may need access to emergency funding.
  • Emergency Management Resources: There are a number of training videos on workplace violence and resources for you to regularly review on this webpage. There is a new emergency alert system, so please pay attention to your emails about updating your information in that system.
  • FERPA protects the privacy of student information. Please review the policy.

Departmental Updates

Advising & Student Support Programs:

  • It was a busy first week! There were 286 sign-ins at the kiosk the first week of classes with most students needing schedule changes and some required schedules to be built.
  • Shellie Tucker has been promoted to Sr. Advisor. She will take on duties vacated by Pam Setek, including but not limited to the Freshmen Registration process.
  • Shellie Tucker and Kim Ross have worked diligently to move the Major/Minor declaration process to Slate Eagle Success. Students may access the form by following this link: https://www.brockport.edu/academics/advisement/forms/
  • We continue to collaborate with Financial Aid through the Roster Verification Process. Instructors will be prompted beginning on Monday, 2/10, to complete the survey by COB on Wednesday, 2/19. No shows will be reported by COB on Monday, 2/24.

Educational Opportunity Program:

  • We launched the SOAR (Strategies for Overcoming Academic Roadblocks) Program, an academic recovery initiative led by DaNeille Kruger and Taylor Thompson. This program replaces STEEPs and supports students on academic probation. SOAR events will be held every Thursday from 6-8pm.
  • EOP is participating in a Retention Seminar Series focused on topics like Retention Strategies in Higher Education, Servant Leadership, and Customer Service and Its Impact on Student Retention.
  • Check out upcoming EOP events in the list at the bottom of the newsletter.

Financial Aid:

  • We were one of the first SUNY schools to send out our newly revised financial award letters and estimates to students!
  • Financial Aid successfully completed the SUNY Single Audit with no findings.

Intercollegiate Athletics:

  • Our student-athletes earned a Fall 2024 semester grade point average of 3.26 and currently hold a 3.22 cumulative GPA across 23 varsity sports. Making this feat even more impressive is the fact that Brockport has one of its largest cohorts of student-athletes in program-history.
  • The gymnastics program partnered with the Monroe County Sheriff’s Office, Brockport Fire District, Brockport Police Department, and the SUNY Brockport University Police to host First Responders Day as part of the Golden Eagles home opener at the Jim & John Vlogianitis Gymnasium against Cortland held on January 18th. Events included the Brockport Fire Department Fire Truck Display, Brockport Police Patrol Unit Vehicle Tours for Children, Brockport Police K-9 Unit, Monroe County Sheriff’s Safe Child ID Information, and Brockport Fire District Fire Education.
  • Athletics welcomed Sean Buckley ’17 as an athletic trainer, providing coverage for the Brockport athletic training clinic, practices and contests, and supervision of athletic training students.

New Student & Transition Programs:

  • We are introducing Military Monday and Transfer Tuesday programs this spring, in addition to tabling programs every Monday and Tuesday all semester. The activities are transfer and military focused, all are welcome.
  • We need Peer Mentors! Peer Mentor recruitment is open, and the position can be found on Handshake.

Registration & Records:

  • We are working on updating current workflows and Mach forms to streamline processes and create efficiencies, including looking at different software options.
  • Congratulations to all graduates who completed their degrees this winter term! The office is in the process of awarding degrees for winter term graduates.

Undergraduate Admissions:

  • UGA will be hosting two Accepted Student Days on March 29 and April 12. We also hit our spring recruitment targets for both first year (+13 to goal) and transfer students (+68 to goal).
