Dear Colleagues:

Unfortunately, I’m still down for the count with this bug, so I don’t have much to report this week. I did want to make sure that you saw two pieces of good news:

The Village of Brockport has secured a New York Forward Grant of $4.5 million. SUNY Brockport was a proud supporter of this grant submission, which should have a great impact on the development of the village and therefore our students’ experiences here. The funds will be used to attract new businesses and entrepreneurs, and continue the enhancement of our waterfront. As the Governor’s press release noted, “The Village seeks to transform its historic downtown corridor into an accessible tourist destination and a home where visitors, residents and people of all abilities can recreate, socialize, live and age in comfort.”

Second, we have added a new varsity sport: women’s flag football! This is the first new varsity sport we’ve added since 2000 when we re-started our men’s lacrosse varsity program. Our announcement drew some terrific media coverage this week.
