SEM Update: February 2025

Monday, February 17, 2025

Greetings Colleagues,

It is hard to believe that we started our monthly Strategic Enrollment Management (SEM) messages about a year and a half ago, shortly after we formed the Strategic Enrollment Management committees and councils. I hope you find these updates helpful and informative. Now that the first 3 weeks are behind us, our preliminary spring 2025 enrollment data is available.

Recruitment & Enrollment Update

  • Overall Enrollment: 7,166 students are currently registered for the spring 2025 semester, an increase from 6,593 in spring 2024, and 6,013 in spring 2023. We have 5,504 undergraduate students registered, and there are 1,662 graduate students registered. The spring 2025 enrollment target of 6,911 was exceeded by +255 students.
  • Fall to Spring Retention: For fall 2024 first-time, full-time students, the fall to spring retention rate is 87.4% compared to the fall 2023 cohort retention rate of 82.4%, and is at a high since Fall 2017. The full-time transfer student retention rate is similar to last year (89.3% vs. 89.8%).
  • Fall 2025 UG Recruitment Update: Undergraduate applications continue to surpass last year’s trends, with 12,870 first-year fall applications, compared to 11,960 in 2024 and 9,781 in 2023. This has resulted in an increase in accepted students, 8,619 compared to 8,089 in 2024 and 6,670 in 2023. The most recent SUNY comparison report shows Brockport as having the most fall 2025 first-year and transfer deposits among the comprehensive universities at this point of time in the cycle. Brockport also welcomed the largest spring 2025 transfer class among the other SUNY comprehensive universities.
  • As we get further into the fall 2025 cycle, information on transfer and graduate applications will be shared.

National Institute of Student Success: In January 2025, we started the National Institute of Student Success’s (NISS) Playbook Diagnostic project, led by Dr. Rey Sia and Erin Rickman. This is an incredible opportunity to have experts from NISS assess our student success trends and programs to improve student outcomes and services. The project is expected to conclude towards the end of the spring semester.
