Engage in your community through the Golden Eagle League (GEL).
What is the GEL?
GEL is a Federal Work Study Program that provides an opportunity for eligible students with the possibility to gain valuable work experience and to engage with local and regional non-profit organizations. The program is managed by the Career Design Center in coordination with the Financial Aid Office.
In simplest terms, GEL has been designed to prepare students for their respective careers by providing off-campus experiences pertinent to their campus education and professional aspirations.
Popular career fields include educational institutions, government agencies, healthcare facilities and community non-profits.
To obtain further details or to determine your eligibility for the program, please reach out to John Sheible, our Employer Relations and Internship Coordinator.
1. Students must be eligible for federal-work study.
Federal Work-Study (FWS) Positions allow degree-seeking students with financial need to work part-time to earn money for educational expenses. Financial aid applicants who receive FWS awards may be employed by partners of the GEL.
FWS positions may not exceed 20 hours per week.
FWS positions are not available during summer break.
Not sure if you are eligible for FWS? Check Banner or contact our Financial Aid Office.
2. Golden Eagle League employees will receive professional and career development guidance.
Students will receive bi-weekly professional development guidance via an email along with an open-door policy with the GEL liaison to hold professional and career development conversations. Email jsheible@brockport.edu for an appointment.
In addition, it is recommended that GEL employees attend two virtual (paid) professional development webinars during the fall and others as scheduled in the spring of their employment with GEL. These sessions are essential components of the program’s professional development requirements assuring that all employees have an opportunity to gain an advantage as members of Golden Eagle League.
