New and Notes …
- I’m off Thursday and Friday of this week so I decided to do a combo newsletter for last week and this.
- Tomorrow is Team Day for the Division and our host, John Sapienza, has some fun plans for our 1 pm session. Hoping everyone can make it!
- Our campus “Stomp Out Hunger” day last Friday was very successful with students, faculty, staff, and community members meeting at the mall outside the Seymour Union to pick up fresh fruit and other perishable items, make donations, and learn more about food insecurity issues. Thanks to all who assisted and participated.
- There are a variety of Senior Week activities that begin in a few days. If you are interested in assisting with any – including volunteering to work the Almost Alum Block Party the night before Commencement – reach out to Kelsey (Senior Week) or Kaci (Block Party). And thanks to everyone who has had a hand in creating the signs that seniors (and other alumni) can purchase next week to put on their lawns. We hope to see them popping up all over NYS.
- Speaking of NYS, the major components of the state budget have been agreed to by the Governor, Senate, and Assembly. We’ll share key aspects as they relate to higher ed when we have more details.
- The final edition of The Port for 2022-23 comes out this Thursday.
- As a series of reminders for your travels:
- The Park Avenue bridge in the Village has been going through some renovations and is scheduled to open back up later this week.
- Construction on the Main Street bridge over the canal will begin the week of May 15.
- Repaving on Route 31 between Transit Way and Sweden-Walker Road will run from June 1 to Sept. By move-in, the majority of the work will be completed. Work around the Gary Drive signal (coming out of the Wal-Mart parking lot) will be completed before June.
Upcoming events to note:
- The final First Friday of the year is this week at Alumni House. Come meet with colleagues and friends from 4:00 to 5:30 pm on May 5. Spread the word!
- Today and next Monday, May 8, are the final two College Senate meetings of 2022-23. Today’s meeting from 3:35-5 pm is in the NY Room in Cooper.
- Next Monday from 1 to 2 pm in the Seymour Union Ballroom is a welcome reception for our new VP for Administration & Finance, Jackie Clark (who is on campus for the first time today). If you are free, pop over to say hello.
- The ROTC Commissioning is next Thursday, May 11, at 10 am in the Tower Fine Arts Theatre. If you have never been it’s something you may want to take in.
- The Commencement Ceremonies are at 9 am and 2 pm on Friday, May 12, in SERC.
- The Recognition Dinner is Thursday, May 18, starting at 5:30 pm.
Enjoy the week!
