Year 2, Issue 4: September 29, 2023

September winding down means Homecoming starts … Monday! It will be a busy but fun week, and the always fickle WNY weather looks like it is going to cooperate. In advance, THANK YOU to Betsy, Kelsey, Dan, Kaci, Kevin, Darcy, and everyone who has worked so hard to bring this week of activities to life. And thank you for bringing the energy that makes this coming week one of the most exciting of the year on campus. Can’t wait!

News and Notes …

  • If you need it, the Homecoming schedule is here.
  • Monday is Monday, but it’s also “First Monday” (not First Friday).” Follow. In addition to the typical First Friday food and beverages, we are encouraging attendees to bring non-perishable items for The Pantry. And, alumnus Stu Krieger ’73 will be on hand to share thoughts and sign copies of his new book, Raft.
  • Speaking of The Pantry, pop over to Dailey Hall on Monday at noon for its grand opening.
  • Our Fall 2023 commercial will begin to air in the Rochester market next week. Zach and Sophia did an incredible job putting this together, so be sure to check it out. The spot builds on the affordability campaign of a year ago and emphasizes all that can be accomplished with a SUNY Brockport degree. A number of our alums are featured. Last year’s commercial, which again heavily emphasized affordability, also will continue to air to a lesser degree. A special thank you to Sophia, who spent a great deal of time researching how to get the spot ready for air on the local networks. This task has historically been outsourced to our partners at DS+CO, but Sophia’s great work saved us thousands of dollars.
  • The Web Team has spent the last several months working on developing an in-house email newsletter solution. That solution will begin to roll out next week and will be used to send the President’s newsletter as well as many of the various divisional newsletters to start. A second phase, which would allow various departments across campus to build and create some dynamic newsletters, will roll out in the spring. This work allowed us to discontinue our EMMA contract, saving the university close to $8,000 a year. Kudos to G, Michele, Megan, and Matthew for their hard work to make this happen.
  • The Brockport Foundation was given a clean audit report with no management letters earlier this week. The full presentation will take place at next week’s Joint Boards meeting of the BF and Alumni Association.
  • Solar Eclipse planning continues. I know there are a ton of questions, and we hope to begin sharing answers in the near future. Oct. 8 marks six months until this major event.
