Vice President News from Ian Harper

It is great to see the campus come to life with the start of the new academic year; we have welcomed new students, returning students, Convocation was held, and classes have started. This is shaping up to be another very strong enrollment year, which bodes well for the future. I do ask you all to please take a moment to reflect on the fact that none of this could have happened without your hard work, commitment, and dedication. Thank you, thank you.

A couple of highlights this month, hopefully you like the changes we have made to this month’s Newsletter, we asked for feedback, received it, and acted on it, please keep that feedback coming. President’s Cabinet joined Julie Caswell, Gary Morog, and Brad Menear on a “Behind the Scenes” facilities tour, getting a firsthand experience of what it takes to keep the campus running.

Don’t forget to take advantage of the fantastic training materials available at BizLibrary and to complete the required Title VI and Title IX Training Modules, if you haven’t already.

Finally, as we strive to improve our work/life balance, I would like to challenge everyone to think of work processes that could be simplified or improved. Please send me your ideas and we can start to drive change for the better.

Thank you for all that you do.

Departmental News

Brockport Auxiliary Service Corporation (BASC)

BASC is pleased to share that it is reintroducing its Refillable Mug Program. All first-year students who attended Convocation were offered a free mug. The Refillable Mug is adorned with an image of Ellsworth as Mascot King and saves customers 10% when used at The Square, Jitterbugs, Raj Madan, or TRAX for fountain beverages or coffee (specialty beverages excluded). This is part of BASC’s sustainability efforts and is an initiative that earns the University points on the STARS report. Mugs may be purchased at The Square for $5 (plus tax).

Kudos to Finance & Management’s Office of Student Accounts and Accounting Staff for going above and beyond during our busiest operational cycle. Here are a few shout-outs:

  • Jonathan Stephenson executed the NYS “Stale Date” check process solo for the first time, and did it flawlessly!
  • Kendall Rood initiated an analysis of prior-year authorized NYS aid awards to proactively identify issues to ensure students receive needed funding.
