Vice President News from Ian Harper:
Happy New Year everyone, I hope you managed to spend some time with family and friends over the holiday period and were able to unwind in preparation for the New Year.
Many thanks to the Facilities Maintenance Staff who worked over the holiday period and to everyone who supported the successful electrical shutdown at the end of December 2024. We have recently been focused on preventative maintenance and have conducted a full inspection of all the roofs and elevators across Campus to help us prioritize maintenance activities and potential capital replacement projects.
With the cold weather returning don’t forget that, with BASC’s support, we have extended the Staff Saver Wednesdayprogram (starting January 29, 2025) through the Spring Semester, where you can eat in the Harrison or Brockway Dining Halls on Wednesdays for just $9.99! It’s a great way to connect with friends and colleagues across the campus over a meal. Also, as we enter the New Year, don’t forget to check out the tremendous resources that are available as part of our new Higher Education EAP (Employee Assistance Program).
A shout out and many thanks to Mark Stacy and his Procurement and Payment Services team for the tremendous support they have been giving and work they have been doing to simplify, train, and explain the various requirements and rules around our procurement and expense processes.
Finally, we are setting up several informal and optional “Chat with the VP” departmental sessions, where we can get to know each other better in a relaxed atmosphere and where you will have the opportunity to share what’s on your mind.
Take care everyone, thank you for everything, and stay warm!!
Coming soon: Informal Chats with the VP!
Per your requests for more opportunities to connect in-person with Ian, we are arranging informal, optional departmental chat sessions in Eagle’s Lookout, where you can ask any burning questions or just get to know Ian and other colleagues better. Finance & Management (F&M)
On December 18, 2024, the F&M Team celebrated with a Holiday Winter Retreat at Dubby’s Tailgate in Albion. It was an afternoon filled with success shoutouts, friendly competition, many laughs, and great food!
F&M’s Office of Student Accounts & Accounting (OSAA)
On December 6, 2024, the OSAA held their first annual International Sweater VESTival! The new-to-us holiday takes place on the second Friday after Thanksgiving each year. Staff were invited to wear a sweater vest (the uglier/sillier, the better) to commemorate the day. We kicked off the new tradition with a chili and baked potato bar, as well as several fun activities! We’re already looking forward to next year!
F&M’s OSAA also recently enjoyed their annual Sip & Socks with Student Accountsevent! On December 11, 2024, the OSAA continued their annual sock exchange tradition, where all participants brought a wrapped pair of socks, and placed them in a grab bag. Staff drew numbers to determine the order in which people would choose – and then thoroughly enjoyed watching everyone discover what they got! Sock designs ranged from Bob Ross to Popeye, Peanut Butter & Jelly to Hamburger Fixings, and more! The event has become so popular that colleagues from other departments and divisions ask to be included. It’s a great opportunity to share some laughter and build morale.
F&M’s OSAA also held its annual Winter Celebration on December 19, 2024. Activities ranged from educational (a “Banner & QuikPAY Scavenger Hunt”, where staff had to identify/share the resources they use to find answers to student-related questions), to silly (“Around the World” with holiday trivia and a “Spinning Game” with prizes!), to delicious (a chocolate tasting)! We shared a delightful meal and spent time sharing stories and laughter. It was a wonderful way to celebrate our success in the face of a busy and stressful fall term.
