Issue 56: March 10, 2026

Vice President News from Ian Harper

With the clocks moving forward an hour over the weekend we can officially say welcome to Spring and the weather certainly seems to be co-operating!!! Although we are in Spring, the University is very focused on driving enrollment for the fall of 2026. So far, we have received over 14,500 applications an increase over 12% compared to last year, which is tremendous, the focus is now on processing these applications and encouraging the accepted students to enroll at the University.

In last month’s newsletter I acknowledged the challenges and frustrations we often face being a service Division, I continued this dialogue at the Division’s extended leadership meeting, where we spoke about respect and broke into teams to discuss four questions: 1) Are your teams respected for the work they do 2) Share examples of when respect was shown 3) Share examples of when respect was not shown and 4) What needs to change to ensure a more respectful environment is created and what role can we play in achieving this. Everyone was very engaged in the session and some great feedback and insights were shared. At my first line meeting we continued to reflect on the session and have identified a series of next steps that we will be sharing in the coming weeks, we will also provide an update at our upcoming Divisional meetings that will be held at the end of the month.

Hopefully, you will have seen some of the tremendous news we recently shared regarding BASC’s strategic dining plan. A multi-year program that will take our dining and retail experiences to a completely new level. A lot of hard work, engagement and soliciting ideas has gone to developing this exciting plan and I encourage you to learn more about it.

We are making progress on the new physical space for the Employee Success Center; a location has been found and is in the process of being renovated and content and resources are being compiled with the plan to official open later in the spring.

Thank you for everything you do.

Take Care
Ian

Develop Tolerance and Respect (2 minutes long; rated 4.5 of 5 stars) – is a video to help learners respect and accept other people’s opinions, behaviors, preferences, even when you don’t agree with them. Peter Quarry, behavioral expert, explains how tolerance and respect can be developed. Develop Tolerance and Respect is a video to help learners realize that when we learn to tolerate other people’s differences, we develop patience and willingness to understand the other person’s point of view.
