Bias Incident Report Investigative Process

Every report that is received through the Bias Incident Reporting System is taken seriously.

The information below outlines the process through which each report is managed:

  1. The Bias Response Coordinating Team (BRCT) is notified that a report was submitted.
  2. The Chief Diversity Officer (CDO) does an initial review of the report. This normally takes place within 2 business days.
  3. The report is assigned to the appropriate official on campus to investigate or follow-up. The report is added to the  Bias Incident Report Dashboard.
  4. The appropriate official investigates the incident reported. All contents of the report are reviewed against existing University and, local, state and federal policies, procedures, and guidelines, including the Student Code of Conduct, Title VI, our Discrimination and Harassment Policy in the determination process. Investigations are completed as quickly as possible while ensuring a thorough investigation is undertaken.
  5. The investigator provides updates to the parties named in the report throughout the investigative process.
  6. The investigating official reports back to the BRCT the status of the report at the next possible meeting after their review.
  7. The report’s investigation outcome is recorded in the database and updated on the dashboard.
  8. The parties involved in the report are notified of the findings/outcomes from the investigation.

The BRCT works within existing University policies and governing structures. Reports are assigned to the appropriate area based on the parties listed in the report.
