Shared Governance

Our Shared Governance bodies include Brockport University Senate, Brockport Student Government (BSG), College Council, and University Administration. The best way to effectively and sustainably implement the priorities of the University is by working together.

Definition of Shared Governance

SUNY defines shared governance as a system where “faculty, professional staff, administration, governing boards, and students participate in the development of policies and in decision making that affects the institution.”

Together, we see shared governance as the means by which we most effectively and sustainably implement the priorities of the University, as established in our Strategic Plan.

In addition to the above groups, other organizations and committees are vital to the sharing of information necessary for the success of the university:

University-wide committees are long-term and charged with overseeing an area of importance to the University community. These are NOT standing committees of any campus governance organizations. The most visible example of a university-wide committee is the Joint Planning and Budget Committee.

Ad hoc committees and task forces are created at the discretion of those initiating the committees and are constituted to serve the purposes outlined in the charge. For more information about the formation of committees and a list of university-wide committees, please access the following link:
