Yes, but this is limited to specific requirements. Each general education course fulfills one SUNY knowledge area and may also fulfill one of the following requirements: contemporary issues, oral communication, or perspectives on gender. These areas are also offered as stand-alone courses.
Students will have the opportunity to talk to an advisor about their schedules during orientation. If an advisor can switch classes around, they will work with the individual student to adjust schedules.
At SUNY Brockport, a full-time undergraduate student is generally defined as one enrolled in 12 or more credit hours per semester.
First Year students are usually scheduled for 12-15 credit hours. Taking 18 credits can significantly increase your workload and potentially impact on your academic performance, social life, and overall well-being.
To send your AP or IB transcripts to SUNY Brockport, you need to request official transcripts from the respective testing organizations (College Board for AP and the International Baccalaureate organization for IB). These transcripts should be sent directly to SUNY Brockport’s Office of Undergraduate Admissions.
You will need a 3 or higher to transfer in AP credit. We have a chart of what AP exams transfer in and what score you need for it to count. If you have additional questions regarding AP credit, you can reach out to Transfer Credit Services at credittransfer@brockport.edu.
In order for transfer credit to be applied toward Brockport degree requirements official transcripts from all original sources must be sent to Undergraduate Admissions. A final official transcript shows all college courses completed at previous institutions and includes the listing of any degrees earned. It is the student’s responsibility to request final official transcripts from each college attended.
Incoming transfer credit could possibly change your schedule. It is important to list all potential incoming transfer credits including AP credits on your “First Semester Registration” form.
At SUNY Brockport, the foreign language requirement for a bachelor’s degree is part of the SUNY General Education Requirements, which aims to provide a broad liberal arts foundation. While your high school experience with a foreign language is valuable, the college requirement ensures a consistent level of proficiency across all students pursuing a bachelor’s degree within the SUNY system.
Sometimes students are signed up for two English courses because the English courses are meeting two separate general education requirements. ENG 112 fulfills the SUNY General Education requirement for College Composition and the other ENG course may be fulfilling the oral communication requirement or an Art requirement.
Your placement in Math is contingent on a combination of factors related to your major, required coursework, and your individual math skill level. College math classes often serve as prerequisites for specific majors, fulfill general education requirements, and help develop critical thinking and problem-solving skills.
Depending on your major and your math placement, you may not have a math course on your schedule for your first semester. If you have further questions about your math course, please contact the Academic Success Center at 585-395-2711.
You may not have an English class on your schedule because you have either already fulfilled the requirement or are taking it at a different time. Brockport offers English courses different times each semester. If we are unable to schedule English in your schedule this semester, you will take it in the Spring semester.

SUNY colleges require visual and performing arts general education classes. There are specific classes that meet this requirement. Some art classes, especially studio art courses, may be popular and fill up quickly. Consider checking with your academic advisor about options and availability or look for introductory or survey courses that may be more accessible to non-majors.
SUNY Brockport has specific local requirements in addition to the general SUNY requirements. These include completing all courses to meet the general education requirements and major requirements, including any departmental or cognate requirements.
GEP stands for General Education Program. It is also referred to as APS or Academic Planning Seminar. We have a couple different GEP classes that range from 1 to 3 credits and are dependent on your admission type. It serves as an orientation to college life, focusing on academic planning, learning skills, career exploration, and connecting students to the university and its resources.
First Year students will be assigned an advisor. Students will be assigned to their APS instructor as their advisor for their first semester. After the first semester, students will transition over to an academic advisor in their major department.
APS instructors will work with upper-class Peer Mentors to connect students to various campus resources and support services. Peer Mentors (PMs) are representatives of SUNY Brockport who collaborate with the Academic Success Coordinator to support new students with their transition to the University.

At SUNY Brockport, being an “intent to major” means a student has been admitted to the university but is not yet officially accepted into a specific, competitive major like Nursing or Social Work. They are working towards fulfilling the requirements to formally apply to and be accepted into that major.
While transfer grade point average (GPA) is used as part of the application review process for admission to the College (and specific programs that require a secondary application) your GPA will not transfer. Only earned grades completed at Brockport will affect your overall GPA.
