Welcome Graduates

You will be given a name card to complete when you arrive at your lineup location, which you will carry to the ceremony. If your name is difficult to pronounce, help the reader by writing your name on the card phonetically.

On the back of the card is a QR code that goes to the site where you enter your contact information to receive your photo with President Macpherson. Please fill it out while you wait to be assembled for the procession into Commencement.

When you are instructed to rise, stand as a group and remain standing until your degree has been conferred; then take your seat as directed.

When you are instructed to come to the platform, move out of your row, proceed to the ramp beside the platform, and give your name card to the reader.

Proceed across the platform to receive your diploma cover and congratulations from your Dean and President Macpherson.

• Doctoral and Master’s Degree Candidates will have their hood bestowed upon them before crossing the platform.
• Certificate of Advanced Study graduates should already be wearing their hoods as they walk across the stage.
• Then, wait with the President, shake hands, and stop to take your photo.
• Upon leaving the platform, re-enter the row that you vacated.

Graduates and guests will remain seated while the platform party and faculty leave the SERC. Graduates will then rise and follow the faculty. Guests will leave the ceremony after the graduates have recessed.
