Students are exploring who they are, what they are interested in, if they are in the right major, what potential career paths exist.
- ENROLL In the dance foundation courses
- ATTEND dance concerts (in the Department and other professional venues)
- CONNECT with all dance professors and fellow dance majors.
- JOIN the Student Dance Organization and participate in events.
- WORK on a production crew
- PARTICIPATE in master classes and residencies with guest artists
- CONNECT with faculty and student choreographers.
Students begin developing a professional demeanor, learning career options, and participating in activities relevant to the profession.
- CONTINUE developing your creative and physical practices by following the advised course sequence.
- CREATE new choreographic work
- FIND connections between your course within and across the campus.
- AUDITION for performance opportunities within the department.
- EXPAND your knowledge by exploring new forms, styles, and approaches in dance.
- SEEK opportunities to study dance beyond the campus (summer workshops and intensives)
Students complete opportunities to distinguish themselves from others through research, internships, volunteer work, education abroad, etc.
- DEEPEN your embodied practice
- ATTEND or present your work at professional conferences
- SEEK out internal and external internships
- LEARN how to document and present your work professionally
- CONSIDER education abroad or other external for-credit opportunities
- PRESENT your work at Scholar’s Day, SURC, and/or off-campus festivals and journals
- IDENTIFY summer workshop opportunities and apply for Lipson Summer Study grant
Students polish and refine their job materials and prepare for entry into the job market/grad school.
- COMPLETE final degree requirements
- REFINE embodied and creative practice.
- PRESENT choreographic, performance, and/or written scholarship at regional and national conferences or festivals.
- APPLY/AUDITION for dance work in the field
- CREATE a resume and/or CV
- CREATE and publish a dance space with links to performing and creative materials.
- BUILD professional relationships that can support career aspirations.
