Outstanding Undergraduate Student
The School of Arts & Sciences Outstanding Undergraduate Student Award recognizes the School’s top scholar. To qualify, a student must be a senior who has earned a minimum 3.5 GPA, exhibited a strong master of understanding/ performance element in their discipline, and demonstrated a significant service element related directly to their department or program.
Grace Crow
Grace Crow is completing her double major in biochemistry and neuroscience, with a double minor in pre-professional health and psychology and a 3.99 GPA. She is a member of the Honors College, the Alpha Chi Honors Society, a Chemistry Lab Preparatory Assistant, and a Chemistry Teaching Assistant. Grace has received the Paul J. Kronthaler Memorial Prize in Chemistry, the Outstanding Scholar Award in Biochemistry and Neuroscience, and the Derek Hill Memorial Scholarship. She has a published research thesis entitled “The Influence of Osmolytes and Perchlorate on the Folding of Z-Nucleic Acid Helices.” Upon graduation, Grace will attend Ohio State University to get her PhD in Biochemistry.
Outstanding Graduate Student
The School of Arts and Sciences Outstanding Graduate Award is presented to an outstanding graduate student who has completed or is completing a program of study within the School of Arts and Sciences in the academic year of nomination. The nominee must have a minimum GPA of 3.85 and significant scholarly activity in their field of study.
Bonnie Rose Thomson
Bonnie Rose Thomson is completing her Master of Arts in Psychology with a clinical research emphasis and a 3.83 GPA. At Brockport, she has served as a graduate assistant for the Department of Psychology and the Office of Special Sessions and Programs, taught two sections of Statistics Lab for undergraduate students, and given guest lectures in several psychology courses, including Introductory Statistics for Psychology, Personal and Professional Development in Psychology, and Principles of Psychology. Bonnie received the Distinguished Professor Graduate Student Research Award a grant for her thesis entitled, “Family Structure and Discrepant Parenting as a Context for College Student Alcohol Consumption.” She has been involved in Dr. Abar’s Health Risk Behaviors Lab, collaborating on multiple research projects and co-authoring manuscripts. Additionally, Bonnie has worked with Dr. Forzano’s lab, providing statistical consultations and co-authoring manuscripts. After graduating, she will pursue a career as a clinician-scientist exploring risk, resiliency, and evidence-based interventions, emphasizing addressing mental health disparities for underserved populations. Bonnie previously received a Bachelor of Science in Psychology with a minor in child development from California Polytechnic State University (2021).
Departmental Scholar Awards
The Departmental Scholar Awards that follow are presented in recognition of outstanding achievement within the academic majors. Although award criteria differ among departments, faculty from each academic major nominate and select the Departmental Scholar based on performance in the classroom, scholarly activity outside the classroom, and commitment to the discipline and/or profession.
