Online Course Support

You can use Adobe Acrobat DC or Adobe Acrobat Pro to run OCR (Optical Character Recognition) on your PDFs in order to make them accessible and searchable. Adobe Acrobat DC and Adobe Acrobat Pro are different from Adobe Acrobat Reader in that they allow you to edit and manipulate PDF documents.

• Adobe Acrobat DC is available on College owned PCs by opening a ticket with the IT Service Desk.

Brightspace is one of the many ways you can integrate the library into your class.

Your course has a “Library Resources” link in the top-bar navigation. You and your students will see the best library Research Guide for your course. If you notice that a key resource is not included on that page, please let us know.

You can provide stable, persistent links to accessible versions of journal articles and other items available through the library’s databases. This will allow your students to access the article directly from your course in Brightspace.

Sometimes, when you are working with a librarian, you will need the librarian to have access to your course in Blackboard. You can enroll a librarian into your course in Brightspace. For more information about working with a librarian, visit Faculty & Staff Support: Instruction for Classes.

1. Log into Brightspace, and go into your course.
2. In Course Admin, choose Course Tools.
3. Under Learner Management, choose Classlist.
4. Select Users.
5. Click the blue “Add Participants” button and choose “Add Existing Users”
6. In the search box under “Add Existing Users” search for the librarian’s NetID and click the magnifying glass icon.
7. When the page refreshes, scroll down and set the Role and Section (if needed).
8. Check the box next to the librarian’s name and click “Enroll Selected Users”

Our library has a collection of Information Literacy Modules. These online tutorials help students learn information literacy skills that are important for their success as Brockport students. We have two types of Information Literacy Modules:

• Credo’s Information Literacy Modules, available to any member of the College community
• Librarian-designed modules, freely available for use by anyone

Types of Materials in Modules

• Tutorials—multimedia materials, often with an interactive ungraded activity for checking your understanding
• Videos—instructional videos
• Quizzes—assessments that can optionally be graded in multiple ways.

Openly Licensed Modules

These modules are available for anyone to use. They can be used or adapted under a Creative Commons license.
