CBFRC Summary: March 20, 2018

Committee members reviewed the summary of the 2018-19 Course Fee Requests. The following discussion points occurred during the review:

• The process for refunding course fees when a course is dropped after the start of the semester was discussed. It was stated that a student needs to appeal with the academic department and the department notifies Student Accounts if the appeal is approved. It was determined that information regarding this process needs to be indicated on a webpage. At this time, it was determined that a statement directing the student to contact the academic department regarding course fee questions would be placed on the Registration and Records webpage. It was also determined that listing this information could increase inquiries to the academic departments. It was determined that information regarding the possible increase in inquires would go to Deans and filter down to all academic chairs.
• Members indicated that they would like more information regarding the implementation of the payment process to patients regarding NUR 500.

The committee members agreed to vote to endorse the course fee requests. The following are the voting results for the endorsement of the 2018-19 course fee requests:

Committee members discussed the memo regarding the Voluntary Medicine Charge:

•  Ms. Pine indicated the reason this charge is labeled a charge and not a fee. It is because a fee is something you pay for the good of the campus and a charge is something a student elects into for a service or convenience they want.

The committee members agreed to vote to endorse the voluntary medicine charge. The following are the voting results for the endorsement f the voluntary medicine charge:

Committee members discussed the classification of hybrid programs and how the possibility of coding Banner to charge students that appropriate fees:

• Teresa stated that Dan Murdoch offered to attend a committee meeting to educate members on the Banner coding that can and cannot be completed for these programs.
• Committee members voiced concerns regarding financial projections that were completed based on the programs that the committee reviewed. Now if more programs are designated by a definition created by Academic Affairs and College Senate, the projections will not be accurate.
• We are still waiting on President’s Cabinet approval or modifications to the committee’s
  recommendation.
• Karen will follow up with Jim Haynes regarding the designation of programs that are online and hybrid.
• Karen will bring forth the concern that what we market the program as versus what the program really is may vary, for example, the MBA is being marketed as an online program but there are two residency courses
