Mentor’s Name and Department: Dr. Jennifer Hecker, Art and Design
Major and Class Year: Art-Studio: Sculpture, Class of 2027
Long-term Goals: My long-term goal as an artist working with recycled materials is to have a commercial studio space to create and teach in. Creating and distributing educational literature and having a large presence on social media are also goals that will boost my work’s impact.
Project Description:
My project is a creative effort to reduce the amount of fabric and textile waste entering our region’s landfills. The outcome of this project is the construction of a giant pair of patchwork pants that will tour the community. The pants are entirely assembled with textiles collected and repurposed from the local community.
What is the most significant experience from your research?
My involvement in micro-communities in the greater Rochester Area. Thrift stores, Brockport Main Street businesses and my friends in the Autism Community have all rallied behind my project.
This project was supported by the Brockport Internship and Professional Experience Fund.
