SUNY Brockport will once again bring together students, faculty, staff, and community partners through the return of Trash To Treasure (T2T) and Saturday of Service (SOS) in 2026. Faculty and staff are invited to play key roles in strengthening these programs. These programs reflect the university’s ongoing commitment to civic engagement, sustainability, and community impact.
Starting on May 4, donation boxes will be placed in residence halls, allowing students to drop off their nonperishable food, toiletries, gently used clothing and bedding, etc. Rather than going to waste, these items are redistributed to local organizations that support folks in need. These community partners will be invited to campus in late May to collect donations.
Saturday of Service, taking place on August 29 this year, introduces incoming students to the value of community involvement before they even begin classes. Through hands-on service projects, ranging from painting and organizing to landscaping and facility support, students learn the importance of giving back while building connections with local agencies and each other.
Faculty and staff play an essential role in the success of both programs. We invite you to recommend local community organizations that could benefit from donations or service support. Suggestions may be sent to serve@brockport.edu.
Additionally, later this semester, calls will be shared for Trash to Treasure volunteers and Saturday of Service Team Leaders. Faculty and staff are encouraged to consider serving in these roles and to actively promote participation among students.
With campus-wide involvement, Trash to Treasure and Saturday of Service continue to strengthen Brockport’s culture of service, collaboration, and community responsibility.
