The Hazen Center for Integrated Care recently partnered with TimelyCare, a 24-hour virtual health and well-being platform, to give our students immediate access to mental health support, medical providers, and self-care resources — anytime and anywhere.

“They can really be talking with someone in less than 10 minutes,” said Elizabeth Weir, the Director of the Hazen Center for Integrated Care. “There are so many competing priorities that students are going through. If late evening — like 9, 10, or 11 pm — is the best time for them to be able to talk with somebody, then great.”
The addition of this resource also comes at a critical time for the Hazen Center for Integrated Care. Last semester, the Counseling Center had a waitlist for students, which hasn’t happened in over a decade.

“When it was first introduced, I thought, ‘This is going to fill a lot of gaps,’” said Thomas Messina, a graduate assistant for the Hazen Center for Integrated Care. “Our staff’s caseloads are packed, and this serves as an immediate resource for students — something that can quickly help ease the demand and get them support right away.”
With features like “TalkNow,” students can connect with a licensed provider within minutes to discuss everyday stressors or questions, without needing to provide insurance information. For concerns that require more in-depth support, students can schedule appointments at times that fit their demanding schedules, including evenings and other nontraditional business hours. Through the platform, students are also able to choose providers who best align with their needs.
“They can choose someone who looks like them,” Weir said. “They can choose someone that has a specialty in their area of concern.”
TimelyCare can be downloaded on any mobile device through the App Store or Google Play. Students can sign up using their Brockport single sign-on credentials — no additional registration steps are required.

“The best part is that it’s free,” Weir said. “The only time health insurance information would be needed is if a student has a physical condition and the provider needs to prescribe medication. Otherwise, the virtual visits are fully covered.”
The goal is simple: expand access, meet increasing demands for care, and provide students with more options. The platform also includes credentialed providers in all 50 states, making it accessible to online and out-of-state students as well.
While Hazen continues to serve students in person, the introduction of TimelyCare adds flexibility and convenience, and reduces the common barriers to care.
