Applications are now open for the Fall 2026 Leland B. Yeager Reading Group in Economics. The reading and discussion group is a competitive opportunity for sophomores, juniors, and seniors of any major. The Fall 2026 book will be Natural Justice, by Ken Binmore, a book that uses together game theory (the economic analysis of strategy) to think about questions in moral philosophy.
The LBY Reading Group is a great opportunity to explore the following and related issues with both peers and experts:
- Are people really altruistic, or mostly self-interested?
- Do people have duties to society, or vice versa?
- If ‘nice guys finish last’, how come there are still nice guys?
- Can we use economic tools to say anything about what it means to be a good person?
The Reading Group is worth one credit hour of course credit, with in-depth and student-led discussions, so it’s a great way to round out a transcript and signal initiative and critical thinking to employers. Plus, the book is free! And for honors students, it also fulfils the HON 380 colloquium requirement.
The application deadline is May 10, earlier applications are more likely to be accepted. Students can apply by filling out this MachForm.
