For Noelle Hale ’25, becoming an educator is about more than what happens inside the classroom — it is about creating meaningful experiences that help students learn, grow, and feel supported.
Through her graduate studies at SUNY Brockport, Hale has embraced unique opportunities that have allowed her to strengthen her skills as an educator while exploring new ways to make an impact.

After earning her bachelor’s degree in elementary education from James Madison University, Hale continued her academic journey at Brockport, where she pursued her Master’s degree in Literacy Education (B-12).
“I chose Brockport because they have one of the most reputable education programs in Western New York,” said Hale.
During her search for the right graduate program, Hale connected with professors in the Department of Education, Languages, and Instructional Design and quickly recognized their commitment to student success.
“I could tell right away that these people would be the type of professors who try to get to know and understand their students and provide the type of support they need,” said Hale.
Hale gained hands-on experience as a graduate assistant through the Brockport Summer Learning Program, a five-week initiative that provides high-quality summer enrichment opportunities to students from the Rochester City School District. The program focuses on creating more equitable educational experiences while giving graduate students valuable insight into the planning and coordination required to support student success.
Through her role, Hale has contributed to several areas of the program, developing skills in communication and program management.
“I have been able to assist with grant proposal writing, student data analysis, and designing summary reports to be distributed to the program’s partners,” Hale said.
“These opportunities allow you to make connections and experiences that will equip you for your future career.”

Outside of her graduate assistantship, Hale also expanded her perspective through a study abroad experience in Spain, where she explored art, architecture, and literature. The 10-day program allowed her to immerse herself in a different culture while gaining meaningful experiences and insights she hopes to carry with her throughout her career.
“We attended three lectures at the University of Granada (the partner school for this program), took two-day trips around southern Spain, professors from the University also took us on tours around Granada, and we attended a few cultural experiences like a cooking class and flamenco dancing,” said Hale.
Some of the most valuable parts of Hale’s education, and preparation for her future, have come from just saying yes to opportunities outside of her comfort zone.
“These opportunities allow you to make connections and experiences that will equip you for your future career,” said Hale. “And the best space to seek out these experiences is in a setting like Brockport.”
