For Zoe White ’26, choosing where to continue her education wasn’t just about finding the right academic program — it was about finding a place where she could grow personally and prepare for her future.
“I knew the Counselor Education program would provide me with the hands-on experiences I was looking for to hone my counseling skills.”

“I came to Brockport because I was looking for a campus that would allow me a safe space to learn, be myself, and grow,” said White. “When looking at Brockport’s website, I noticed the effort they put into making sure students feel accepted on campus.”
After successfully completing the competitive admissions process, including a group interview, White was selected by faculty to join the School Counseling (MSEd) program.
She believed the program would provide the hands-on learning experiences she needed to become an effective school counselor — a decision that has only strengthened her confidence.
“I knew the Counselor Education program would provide me with the hands-on experiences I was looking for to hone my counseling skills,” said White.
White’s journey to the counseling profession began in an unexpected place. She started her undergraduate journey as a nursing major before discovering her passion for psychology.
“Now, as a graduate student at Brockport, I am confident that I am where I’m meant to be,” said White. “Through hands-on experiences via internships, I am now more confident in my identity as a school counselor, and I am excited to begin my future.”
Experiential learning has been a defining part of White’s graduate experience. Through internships and real-world counseling opportunities, she has strengthened her counseling skills and is ready to transition from student to future school counselor.
For prospective students considering the program, White encourages them to embrace new challenges and lean on the support around them.
“Nearly everyone in this program is here to support you and help you become the best version of yourself,” said White.
