Bio

Dr. Dwayne Nash specializes in the U.S. legal system, with a focus on marginalized and underprivileged groups, including people with disabilities, prisoners, immigrants, and minority communities. Since joining Brockport in January 2022, he has dedicated himself to connecting legal principles to real-world applications, fostering practical and engaging learning experiences for students.

In his legal career, Dr. Nash has distinguished himself as an experienced litigation attorney specializing in criminal, civil, administrative, disability, and labor law. As an Administrative Hearing Judge and Appeals Referee for the Florida Department of Economic Opportunity, he presided over hearings and authored detailed legal decisions. He has also worked as a Prosecutor for the New York County District Attorney’s Office and as a Staff Attorney for the American Civil Liberties Union, where his advocacy for systemic reform underscored his commitment to public interest law.

Dr. Nash’s expertise extends beyond academia into museum curation and legal practice. As a Research Fellow and Content Development Consultant for the Legacy Museum: From Enslavement to Mass Incarceration, in Montgomery Alabama, where he conducted original research, developed historic narratives, and collaborated with scholarly groups and design teams to create impactful exhibits and programs.
