Minor in LGBTQ+ Studies

Description

If you have an interest in LGBTQ+ communities—whether personally, professionally, or as an activist—consider a minor in LGBTQ+ Studies. LGBTQ+ Studies is an interdisciplinary field the explores constructions and lived experiences of nonnormative gender and sexual identities, and examines their impact on cultural institutions, politics, media, social justice, and our everyday lives. This minor is intersectional with a focus on how gender and sexuality intersect with race, class, nation, disability, and other axes of power and difference. A minor in LGBTQ+ Studies can help you build knowledge and skills relevant to a wide variety of careers in education, health, medicine, social work, public policy, community development, human resources, and more.

Because of its interdisciplinary framework, an LGBTQ+ Studies minor fits particularly well with many majors, since cross-listed courses can be applied toward both major and minor requirements. Majors that pair well with this minor include:

Admission to the Program

Any undergraduate student can declare this minor.

Program Requirements

In addition to the course requirements below, students must meet the following requirements:
  1. No more than 9 credits taken for the LGBTQ+ Minor can be used towards the completion of a Women and Gender Studies Major
  2. A student cannot minor in both Women & Gender Studies and LGBTQ+ Studies.
