Ismael Souto is an Associate Professor of Spanish at SUNY Brockport. He holds a Master’s in Spanish from the University of Kansas and received his PhD at Stony Brook University. His current research focuses on uniting stardom analysis with a detailed consideration of the masculinities that dominated the Spanish cinematic output of the 1940s. He is working on a book project that explores male stars and cinematic constructions of masculinity in Spain during the period. He has also published academic essays about the representation of masculinities in some of Benito Pérez Galdós’ novels in edited volumes and academic journals like Anales de estudios galdosianos.
