Internship & Professional Experience Stipend

$2,000 one-time award

A limited number of scholarship stipends, up to $2,000, are available for enrolled undergraduate students participating in a semester-long internship or placement with a SUNY-designated industry or organization.

What experiences qualify?

• Traditional internship placements
• Clinical Placements (e.g. Nursing)
• Experiential Learning Opportunities
• Student Teaching Placement (Field Experience is NOT included)
• Field Placement (e.g. Social Work)
• Summer Research

Eligibility

• Must be a current matriculated Undergraduate SUNY Brockport student in good academic standing (not on academic probation).
  • Students are not eligible after their graduation.
• Must have completed a minimum of 12 credit hours at SUNY Brockport.
• Must have secured an on or off-campus unpaid internship or curricular applied learning experience for the future by the time of application. No retrospective stipends will be awarded.
  • You will be asked to provide your supervisor’s information in the application so that we may verify and review your experience.
• Someone at the organization’s site must supervise the experience. The site supervisor cannot be a family member.
• Preference given to students who demonstrate significant barriers for completion of the internship

Application Timeline

Applications are accepted on a rolling basis and processed bi-weekly throughout the semester. Approved applications will receive funding for the current semester. 

Application periods: (on or about the following dates)

• Fall: August 1 – October 15
• Spring: December 15 – February 2
• Summer: April 1 – July 1

Next Steps & Required Forms

Students who are approved for funding must complete the following steps to receive payment.

• Complete and submit a W-9 tax form
• Sign a standard voucher prepared by Career Design and Experiential Learning
• Sign and submit a copy of their award letter indicating that they accept or decline the award stipend.

Please note:

• To receive full funding, students must successfully complete their academic curricular requirements (e.g., number of hours, any academic assignments, etc.). If plans change, students must immediately notify Career Design and Experiential Learning/the selection committee via email at career@brockport.edu.
• The address and other information on the W-9 and Standard Voucher must match otherwise, New York State will not accept these forms.
• If a student is outside of the Brockport, NY, area and cannot come to Career Design and Experiential Learning to sign their documents, they can print, sign, and scan the documents and send them to career@brockport.edu.

Award Distribution

Stipends will be awarded in one payment as early in the semester as possible.
A check will be mailed to the recipient at the address provided on the W-9. Checks are processed by the Office of the State Comptroller in Albany and are, therefore, beyond the control of Career Design and Experiential Learning. Students are encouraged to actively monitor their Brockport email for updates.

Please note, this is an internship/living stipend and is considered taxable income. It is the student’s responsibility to determine if taxes are owed on grant monies received in connection with the course of study. Students should, therefore, consult a tax advisor regarding these grants.
