International Accepted Student Checklist

All international students in the F-1 status require a Form I-20 Certificate of Eligibility for Nonimmigrant Student Status, which our team in the International Student Services (ISS) office provides to you. Once admitted to SUNY Brockport, please log into your application portal and select the Request for SEVIS I-20 Form under the “Forms” section. After you complete this form, navigate to your Application Checklist where you will see a list of additional materials that you must provide to obtain your I-20.

You will need to submit proof of financial support equal to 1 year of study (minus any scholarships you have received). You can provide the following documents as proof of financial support:

• Recent Bank Statement: The bank statement should include the account holder’s name, the currency, and the date. If the bank statement is from a family member or other relation, you must submit a Financial Support Letter signed by the account holder in addition to your bank statement.
• Proof of External Funding: If you are receiving additional funding from government sources or other scholarship-granting agencies, please provide official documentation showing the source of funding, your name, the covered amounts, and the dates of coverage.

Transfer Students

If you are in the US in valid F-1 status and are transferring to SUNY Brockport, you will see our SEVIS Transfer Form in your application portal after you submit your I-20 request. Please work with your current international student advisor to complete this form. Once your SEVIS record is released from your current institution, ISS will create and provide you with an updated SUNY Brockport I-20.

A valid visa is essential for entering and re-entering the U.S.

Use the Study in the States website to guide you through the visa application process. We also recommend reviewing NAFSA’s 10 Points To Remember When Applying for a Student Visa. After reviewing these resources, please complete the steps below. Note: Canadian citizens only need to complete up to Step 1*.

1. Pay your SEVIS I-901 fee
2. Complete your visa application (DS-160)
3. Set up your visa appointment with the U.S. Embassy or Consulate in your country of nationality or residence.

You will need the following documents when attending your visa appointment:

• I-20 form (all 3 pages)
• Letter of acceptance to SUNY Brockport
• Financial support documentation
• Scholarship or assistantship notification letter (only if you have been awarded a scholarship or an assistantship from Brockport)
• SEVIS I-901 payment receipt

*Please note that Canadian citizens do not need a U.S. visa to enter the United States in F-1 status. However, you must prepare all other documents outlined above and pay the SEVIS I-901 fee. The Department of State offers more information for Canadian citizens.

Pre-Arrival Webinar – MANDATORY

On Wednesday, August 5, 2026 at 9:00 AM Eastern, the ISS Office will hold a mandatory Pre-Arrival Webinar for incoming international students. We require all incoming freshman, transfer, and graduate international students to attend this webinar. We will discuss important travel considerations, take a final walk through the Accepted Student Checklist, and answer any questions you may have before your arrival.

It’s time to reserve your spot at Brockport! After your visa is approved, submit your tuition deposit to confirm your enrollment. This will allow you to set up your email, register for classes, and more. 

Banner ID Number

This is the nine-digit number, beginning with 800, you received during your application process. This is also referred as “student ID” or “800 number”.

NetID & Email

• NetID: This is your primary username at Brockport. It is the first letter of your first name, followed by the first 4 letters of your last name, followed by a number. To activate/start using your account, follow the instructions on the NetID Lookup and Password Change System page.
• Brockport Email: Your university email address is your NetID followed by @brockport.edu. Regularly check your Brockport Webmail. All official communication will be sent to this account, including your student tuition bill and course schedule updates.
• Students will have a NetID and Brockport Email generated within 72 hours of paying their deposit to attend Brockport.
  • Exchange students: You will receive your NetID in your Brockport acceptance letter.

Download Authenticator App to Access Multi-Factor Authentication

Follow the Multi-Factor Authentication (MFA) Instructions to install the Authenticator app and register your devices with SUNY Brockport. This is required in order to access most SUNY Brockport systems. Once you download the Authenticator app, do not delete it!

To pay your housing deposit, log into your Admissions Application Portal. After you pay your housing deposit, you will receive an email with instructions to complete your housing application through the Housing Portal. This is your opportunity to list your preferences, including who you’d like to room with (if you have a roommate in mind).

For exchange students: Your housing deposit will be waived automatically. Once you receive your acceptance letter from Brockport, use your NetID and password to log into the Residential Life Online Housing Portal.

Please provide your course preferences by logging in to your Admissions Application Portal.

• First year students should find a form called “First Semester Registration”.
• Transfer students should find a form called “Start Class Registration”.
• Graduate students: Please monitor your SUNY Brockport email account for updated information regarding advisement. If you have any immediate concerns, feel free to contact your academic department.

Exchange students: Upload your Course Preference Form to your online account or email to: iss@brockport.edu

Make your Travel Arrangements

The International Student Services (ISS) office will provide transportation from Rochester airport, bus, or train stations to Brockport on the designated arrival/move-in dates. The closest airport to SUNY Brockport is the Frederick Douglass Greater Rochester International Airport (ROC).

If you choose to arrive on a date other than those specified by ISS, you will need to arrange your own transportation. Once you have made your arrangements, please complete the orientation registration below and provide your travel details.

Register for Orientation

Orientation is mandatory for all new international students. Some of the things we do during orientation are:

• Pick you up from the airport or transit station
• Assist you with on-campus housing and meal plans
• Cover important immigration information
• Guide you through the mandatory SEVIS Check-In process, which allows us to report your arrival to the government and activate your SEVIS record (as required by law)
• Discuss health insurance in the U.S. and provide you with your insurance card
• Organize excursions to welcome you to Brockport and Rochester
• Discuss U.S. classroom dynamics

Complete the International Orientation Registration to RSVP and provide us your travel arrangements.

Your Brockport ID will give you access to your residence hall, dining halls, the gym, etc. Upload your ID photo following the instructions so you can have your ID card ready and waiting for you when you arrive to campus. The ISS team will provide you with your ID card during our orientation program. 

Once you have been registered for classes, you must follow the instructions to affirm your enrollment through the Brockportal. Your scholarships and tuition waivers will not show on your bill until you have affirmed.

All students are required to submit immunization records. Please obtain a copy of your immunization records from your health care provider, high school, or a previous college and upload them to My Hazen. Read more about your requirements and submit your records to Hazen Health Center.

Documents to Carry

In order to enter the United States, you will need to have the following documents. Be sure to carry these documents with you in your personal items or carry-on bag:

• A valid passport
• Your F-1 student visa (except for Canadian students)
• Your I-20 form
• Financial documentation to show adequate financial resources
• Your SUNY Brockport acceptance letter
• SEVIS I-901 payment receipt

Retrieving your I-94 Form

Your I-94 Arrival-Departure Record is issued by an immigration officer at your port of entry into the U.S. This I-94 is extremely important as it indicates your immigration status and the date when your permission to remain in the U.S. expires. Most likely your I-94 will be electronic, however if you are issued a paper I-94, it must be kept in your passport at all times. You can retrieve your I-94 Arrival/Departure Record online.

Check the Academic Calendar for additional dates such as tuition and housing deposits, first and last days of classes, withdrawal periods, vacation periods, etc.

Degree-seeking students only:

• High School Transcript - As soon as possible after final grades are posted
  • Submit your final high school transcripts to the Office of Undergraduate Admissions, 350 New Campus Drive, Brockport, NY 14420
• AP, IB, and/or college course credits - As soon as possible after final grades are posted
  • Request your official AP, IB and/or college transcripts be sent to the Office of Undergraduate Admissions, 350 New Campus Drive, Brockport, NY 14420

All new, residential students will automatically be enrolled in a meal plan. ISS recommends that you try out the dining halls during the first week of classes. After that, you can update your meal plan options based on your personal needs. You can change your meal plan through the BASC Online Account portal during the first two weeks of the semester. Don’t miss this deadline if you plan to change your meal plan! Please note that only one change to a meal plan can be made starting the week before classes begin. 

Add or update your ICE (In Case of Emergency) contacts in the Brockportal. If you don’t submit this information, a hold may be placed on your record. 

You must understand your rights and responsibilities as a member of our campus community. Make sure to read and accept the Student Code of Conduct through the Brockportal. If you don’t accept the Student Code of Conduct, a hold will be placed on your record.  Please also read the Academic Dishonesty Policy as you must understand and adhere to Brockport’s standards for academic integrity.
