Peer Education Program

Building a healthier Brockport, one conversation at a time.

Peer education is a student-led model where peers teach, support, and influence one another around health, wellness, and prevention topics. Because peers share backgrounds, environments, and social norms, they often speak in a language that others trust - opening doors for honest conversations.

Within higher education, peer educators help bridge gaps between formal services and everyday student life. Their voices can shift norms, reduce stigma, and make prevention feel less like a lecture and more like real talk.

Peer education interventions tap into the power of social influence, allowing messages to spread through trusted relationships rather than top-down directions.

Widnall et al. (2024)

Research consistently shows that peer-led interventions can increase knowledge, shift attitudes, and promote healthier behaviors on college campuses. By blending evidence-based strategies with authentic student voices, peer education plays a key role in prevention and culture change.
