At Health Promotion & Prevention Education (HPPE), we’re all about helping Golden Eagles make informed choices, take care of themselves and their communities, and have fun while doing it. Our programs are rooted in education on health promotion practices, harm reduction, and violence prevention. Our peer-led and staff-supported programs aim to engage students in meaningful conversations that promote well-being, safety, and community.
HPPE leads several signature campus-wide initiatives that bring students together, foster community, and promote well-being throughout the academic year.
Signature Initiatives
A critical workshop facilitated in the first 7 weeks of the semester to all incoming students to educate students that prevention is possible! The acronym BADASS: Be Aware Decide to Act Say Something, is used as the base for HPPE Peer Educators and leadership team to introduce and navigate problematic situations that students could encounter and equip them with tools to intervene and prevent violence, all while prioritizing their safety. Topics covered (not an exhaustive list): bystander effect, diffusion of responsibility, 4 Ds of intervention, barriers to intervening, Brockport policies (i.e., good Samaritan, Cannabis, etc.), harm reduction and resources.
Fun, interactive education on alcohol, drugs, and sexual health through themed bingo nights. In partnership with Brockport Student Government (BSG) and RESTORE Sexual Assault Services, HPPE makes education fun!
College Life Live is an interactive program facilitated at Golden Eagle Orientation (GEO) for incoming students. Orientation leaders play a key role in acting out skits on topics like substance use, hazing and interpersonal relationships.
