Mia Vizcaino is a graduate student pursuing a Master of Public Administration. She came to SUNY Brockport as an undergraduate student and earned her bachelor’s degree in political science. The campus became her “home away from home”, so it was an easy decision for her to stay here for her master’s degree.

“Between the strong academic programs, supportive professors, and countless opportunities for growth, Brockport has not only provided me with an excellent education, but has also prepared me with the skills, experiences, and confidence I need for the future,” she said.

For students coming to the University for their graduate degree, her advice is to give yourself a chance. She said that students are capable of so much more than they think.

“Don’t be afraid to ask questions, seek support, and connect with others in your program,” she said. “Most importantly, embrace the experience and enjoy every moment of your graduate journey.”

Mia was a student-athlete on Brockport’s Cross Country and Track and Field teams. Although she is no longer eligible to play, she enjoys running every chance that she gets. She also loves hiking in the Adirondacks and Ithaca, reading, and spending time with her three dogs — a Pitbull and two American Bullies — who are the sweetest companions! She stays engaged on campus by serving as a graduate assistant for the School of Business and Management and as a member of the University’s Strategic Planning Committee. Outside of campus, Mia volunteers with the Climate Solutions Accelerator of the Genesee-Finger Lakes Region, an environmental nonprofit dedicated to building healthier, more equitable, and regenerative communities by driving local action to eliminate greenhouse gas emissions and address the effects of climate change.
