Q: As an international student, why did you choose Brockport?
A: I chose SUNY Brockport because it offers a strong academic experience through its established and accredited nursing program, a diverse range of campus activities, and a supportive community where I can grow both academically and personally.
Additionally, with all its excellent qualities and outstanding nursing program, Brockport is very affordable for me, even as an international student.
Q: What kind of support have you received from Brockport?
A: Thanks to the International Student Scholarship and the Honors College Scholarship, I have been able to take full advantage of the opportunities at Brockport. The professors, the campus environment, and the people I have met have allowed me to truly connect with others and build a strong foundation for my future in healthcare and in life in general.
Q: What’s the Nursing major like?
A: Nursing is a demanding field, but it is incredibly rewarding if you commit early and stay organized.
So far, clinicals have been my favorite part of nursing school because I get to work with real patients and their families. The skills you learn in clinicals are invaluable. Build relationships with your faculty and classmates, and don’t hesitate to ask questions. It’s important not to isolate yourself when you encounter challenges, especially with the supportive faculty, classmates, and upperclassmen in the nursing program at SUNY Brockport.
Q: How have the skills you learned in the Nursing program impacted you?
A: Leadership has pushed me to think beyond tasks and focus on people. It has made me more comfortable stepping up, speaking with intention, and staying calm under pressure —qualities I will need as a nurse and future healthcare professional.
It has also helped me understand how teamwork, culture, and communication shape people’s (and patients’) outcomes. In the long term, it motivates me to pursue advanced practice in healthcare so I can advocate for my patients and help guide future clinicians.
Q: What advice would you give to a student who’s interested in Nursing?
A: Take advantage of every opportunity available — including labs, simulations, clinical rotations, leadership roles, and internships — to enhance your growth, knowledge, and skills. Remember, what you invest in your education is directly related to what you will gain from it. It’s as straightforward as that.
