School of Nursing Teaching Assistant (Part-time)

The Teaching Assistant (TA) in the School of Nursing at SUNY Brockport is a
key academic support role designed to help undergraduate and graduate
nursing students achieve academic success. Serving as both a tutor and a
resource, the TA works closely with students to clarify complex nursing
concepts, guide coursework, and assist with assignments. This individualized
and group support helps students build a stronger understanding of the
material and enhances their overall performance in nursing courses.
The TA collaborates with faculty members by assisting in lesson planning and
developing educational materials. The TA maintains regular communication
with faculty, provides updates on student progress, and helps identify students
who may require additional academic support.
A significant part of the TA’s role is to foster a positive, inclusive, and engaging
learning environment. This includes encouraging student participation, adapting
tutoring approaches to suit diverse learning styles, and addressing any
questions or concerns students may have. TAs may also assist with
administrative tasks, such as tracking and maintaining records, and play a role
in upholding classroom policies, professionalism, and academic integrity.
Overall, the TA position offers graduate nursing students a valuable opportunity
to develop leadership, communication, and teaching skills. While supporting
fellow students and collaborating with experienced faculty, TAs gain practical
educational experience and contribute to the positive learning environment
within the School of Nursing.
