What is the one thing you hope students take away from your course(s)?
Our courses provide students with knowledge, real-world experiences, and a sense of unity to tackle the challenges faced in our accounting profession. We want students to be well-rounded, committed, and able to make decisions that impact societies.
What are the real-world applications of the work you do at the University?
Some of the real-world applications are using better visualization tools to present accounting data. In today’s society, students must be prepared to make quick decisions and present information in a unique way. That’s what separates Brockport Accounting students from other candidates applying to firms.
What kinds of coursework and capstone projects should students expect?
This varies depending on the course but all projects bridge a connection and improve various sections of accounting. One of the challenges we face is having too much data available to us and knowing how to use that data in the best way possible.
What advice would you give to a student who wants to be successful?
My best advice is to network with other students, talk with your professors, and try to establish a connection. As an undergraduate student many years ago, I was shy to speak with those in my field. I overcame this fear and connect with everyone today.
What is the focus of your scholarly pursuits?
Every day there is something new to learn. As educators and students, learning never stops. My interest is in studying diversity in accounting and learning how to use new tools to make accounting easier to understand for the new students entering the field.
