Bio

Dr. Margaret (Peggy) Lane joined the Brockport community full-time as an Assistant Professor and Program Director of the MSW program in Fall 2018. Prior to this role, Dr. Lane served as an adjunct instructor in both the BSW and MSW programs at Brockport, as well as in numerous other Social Work programs across the region, accumulating over a decade of teaching experience. Most recently, she taught in the Mandel School of Applied Social Sciences at Case Western Reserve University in Cleveland, Ohio, as part of the intensive weekend Master of Social Work program.

Dr. Lane brings a wealth of social work knowledge and practical experience to her distinguished career in Federal Service. She has served in multiple capacities, including as a medical and behavioral health social worker, suicide prevention coordinator, homeless veteran advocate, and family life specialist within the Veterans Health Administration (VA) and the United States Coast Guard (USCG).

An alumna of the GRC MSW Program, Dr. Lane went on to earn her PhD in Child and Family Psychology from Syracuse University in 2015. Her professional practice at the VA has significantly influenced her research interests, which focus on topics such as suicide prevention among veterans, recovery-oriented models in clinical practice, substance abuse and misuse, and homelessness.

Dr. Lane has made substantial contributions to the development and implementation of federal policies aimed at ending veteran homelessness and has played a key role in shaping VA policies based on Federal and State laws during her tenure at the Louis Stokes Cleveland VA Medical Center.

As an Associate Professor and Program Director, Dr. Lane is deeply committed to fostering collaboration with both faculty and students. Her vast expertise, combined with her passion for teaching and research, positions her as a leader in advancing the MSW program and the broader field of social work at Brockport. She is enthusiastic about continuing her work to inspire and support the next generation of social work practitioners and scholars.
