Research Interests
Dr. Mariel Rivera-Piluso is an alumnus of the WGS and Anthropology departments at SUNY Brockport, class of 2016. Her research interests lie within feminist medical anthropology, with a specific focus on reproductive health and childbirth. She is interested in how race, gender, and class influence reproductive and maternal health experiences, as well as the practices communities create, maintain, and establish to address these disparities. Her recent doctoral research focused on the use of community-based doulas in Syracuse, New York, who specifically work with Black individuals, people of color, and marginalized communities. She is excited to continue teaching, learning, and researching alongside students and colleagues as a current lecturer in the WGS department at SUNY Brockport.
