ADA Title II Regulations and Accessibility Guidelines
Recent updates to Title II of the Americans with Disabilities Act have set specific requirements for the accessibility of web content and mobile applications, which will necessitate compliance with the World Wide Web Consortium (W3C) Web Content Accessibility Guidelines (WCAG) by April 24, 2026. These regulations apply broadly to web and mobile content created, utilized, and sponsored by SUNY Brockport, with limited exceptions.
Web Content Accessibility Guidelines (WCAG) 2.2, Level AA
The University has adopted WCAG 2.2, Level AA as the target technical standard for digital accessibility. WCAG 2.2, Level AA provides a series of success criteria for web developers and content creators to follow, ensuring that digital content is perceivable, operable, and understandable for all users, and sufficiently robust to be compatible with assistive technologies. These guidelines are developed based on a set of basic principles that aim to make the web usable and accessible for everyone.
Digital Accessibility Task Force
A task force was formed in 2025 to provide a strategic and pragmatic response to the new ADA Title II requirements and direct the University’s long-term efforts toward digital accessibility compliance. Under the leadership of Vice President of Administration and Finance, Mr. Ian Harper, this cross-divisional team includes representation from Academic Affairs, Student Affairs, Brockport IT Services, University Communications, Library Services, Student Accessibility Services, the Center for Excellence in Learning and Teaching (CELT), Brockport Auxiliary Services Corporation (BASC), and Human Resources.
