Policy Statement

This policy describes the minimum number of credits that a student must earn from SUNY Brockport to receive a SUNY Brockport credential, including but not limited to a degree, certificate, or badge.

Purpose/Scope

To explain what residency is in the context of a SUNY Brockport credential and differentiate it from other higher-education contexts that use residency as a criterion.

Applicability

This policy applies to all undergraduate and graduate students.

Definitions

Credential — A credential is a document issued by an authorized entity, such as a university, upon determining that an individual has achieved specific learning outcomes based on a commonly understood standard. Degrees, licenses, certificates, and badges are examples of credentials.

Residency — For the purpose of this policy, residency is defined as the minimum number of SUNY Brockport credits for a SUNY Brockport degree, minor, or credential. This definition is distinct from the criteria used to determine who is eligible for in-state tuition or the period of mandatory training for some degrees or credentials.
