Bio
As a 26-year teacher educator and scholar, Dr. Seymour joined the PETE program at SUNY Brockport as an Associate Professor in January 2025. Dr. Seymour teaches undergraduate and graduate courses in physical education and sport pedagogy specializing in curriculum, instruction, assessment, and coaching.
Dr. Seymour’s research involves the exploration of issues related to the physical education profession including pedagogy, educational policy, social justice, and coaching. He has presented at international, national, state, and local levels of symposia with several publications to his record including: The Journal of Teaching in Physical Education; Quest; The International Journal of Education Policy and Leadership; The Journal of Inquiry and Action; The Physical Educator; The Journal of Physical Education, Recreation, and Dance, Strategies; Issues in Teacher Education; and The British Journal of Educational Psychology. Dr. Seymour and fellow SUNY Brockport Professor Dr. Alisa James are co-editors of the New York State Association for the Health, Physical Education, Recreation and Dance (NYS AHPERD) Curriculum and Assessment Guidance Document for Physical Education, Second Edition (CAGD2).
Dr. Seymour is the Past-President of NYS AHPERD and currently serves on the association’s Board of Directors. In addition, Clancy was the Chair of the New York State Education Department Learning Standards Project and served on the Society of Health and Physical Educators (SHAPE) America National Physical Education Standards Task Force. Dr. Seymour also hosts the NYS AHPERD A-Z Health and PE Podcast with over 25 episodes to his credit.
Prior to SUNY Brockport, Dr. Seymour served the PETE program at Canisius University. Originally from Brampton, Ontario, Canada, Dr. Seymour is a former student-athlete at Canisius University where he both played for and coached the Men’s Ice Division I Hockey program. He earned his Bachelor’s and Master’s Degree in 1997 and 1998 from Canisius University while completing his doctorate from D’Youville University in August 2014.
Physical education has a strong presence in both Dr. Seymour’s professional and personal life. He lives in Wheatfield, NY with his wife Karin Seymour, who is also a K-12 physical and health educator in Buffalo Public Schools. At home, Karin and Clancy are continuously refining their craft as physical educators with 4 beautiful children.
