Car Rental FAQs

Enterprise-Rent-A-Car is the preferred rental car agency used by both the State and Research. There is a contract with Enterprise which affords us good rates for rentals, therefore we encourage you to take advantage of the available savings. According to Research Foundation policy, anyone doing business on behalf of a Research Foundation grant is covered under the Research Foundation. This includes employees, students and volunteers.

When renting a vehicle it must be rented under The Research Foundation of SUNY name as primary and your name secondary. The Damage Waiver is included in the rental rates. Loss Damage Waiver (LDW), Collision Damage Waiver (CDW), Personnel Effects Insurance (PEI), Personal Accident Insurance (PAI), liability insurance, or any other insurance offered by the rental agency are not eligible for reimbursement.

There are age limits imposed on who can rent a vehicle. An individual must be 18 years of age to rent a vehicle. Trucks, passenger vans and other larger vehicles may require the age of the renter to be at least 25.

The rental agency requires that you return the vehicle with the same amount of fuel as when you drove the car off the agency lot. This amount of fuel will be noted on your copy of the renter’s receipt. The Research Foundation for SUNY will reimburse your fuel costs with proper receipts. We ask that you ensure you return the vehicle with the same level of fuel, plus an additional 1/4, as when you received the vehicle. Generally it is unacceptable to have the rental company refuel the vehicle unless the rate listed on your copy of the renter’s agreement is less that the current rate of gas per gallon.

Economy, compact, intermediate, standard, full size, minivan, midsize/standard SUV, small pick-up truck, premium compact hybrid, intermediate hybrid, and full size hybrid vehicles include UNLIMITED free miles. All other vehicles may include mileage charges.
